Breakfast Tips That May Help To Remove Those Extra Pounds

Breakfast is the most important meal because it ups your metabolism and fuels your body for all of the tasks and challenges that will confront you during the first half of the day. So, if you have to skip a meal, it shouldn’t be breakfast.

For most of the early part of my my life, I ate the typical southern breakfast. You know what I mean – biscuits, grits, bacon or sausage, scrambled eggs, and a little jelly on the side. It was loaded with bad fat and cholesterol, but it was also good. I still eat this every now and then.

What’s Bad About The Typical Southern Breakfast?

That was then, but times have changed, and I have changed. I am much more concerned now with high cholesterol, heart disease, and weight gain then I was earlier in my life. So, I had to fine healthy alternatives to the typical southern breakfast that many people still eat every morning.

I turned to whole grain cereals, fruit, a piece of salmon, and may be an egg without the yolk. This was a lot healthier breakfast, but I notice that the extra weight still wasn’t coming off.  So why was I not losing weight?

Are Cereals Better For Breakfast?

After doing a little research, I found out that cereals – even whole grain – was not the best breakfast for me. Although sweet, delicious, and crunchy, it’s full of sugary carbs and not much fiber or protein. Although some cereals – like raisin bran – are better than others, cereal is cereal, and it’s not the most nutritious choice for breakfast.

I started focusing on increasing the amounts of protein, fiber, and healthy fats – at least six grams of fiber, and 10 to 15 grams of healthy fats. So, for the most part – I have shelved the boxes of cereals for breakfast smoothies and started substituting chicken or salmon for the bacon.

Although, I’m still in the trial period, my theory is that the extra weight will begin to disappear. It’s just a matter of time.
